Mt Prospect, IL – August 17, 2020 – Rauland today announced that it has been recognized as a Manufacturing Leadership Awards winner for its outstanding achievement in Operational Excellence Leadership.
The winning project enabled Rauland to resolve LED module variance and related supply chain/inventory control issues. Rauland’s Display Message Boards are built from two 12” x 6” circuit boards, each circuit board has 10 LED modules with thousands of LED’s controlled by a microprocessor. During programming and test, it was observed that a color and luminosity variance was created by variation in the LED modules from different bins. The choice was to either procure bin-specific LED modules or isolate specific subassemblies to be used together in a final assembly. Both solutions presented significant complexities in cost and inventory control.
Rauland was able to create an alternate option to solve the issue and not only create an efficient model but improve product quality at the same time. “Through a collaborative engineering effort, an optimized and creative solution was implemented. A process was created to measure luminosity and color of each LED and after which, alter the stimulus applied by the microprocessor to match visible colors,” explained John Ulaszek, Division Vice President of Operations at Rauland. He added, “The result was a high-quality Display Message Board and savings in excess of $100,000 per year, not to mention resolving the inefficiencies of a less-than optimal supply chain.”
Rauland will be recognized at the Manufacturing Leadership Awards Gala, which will take place as a virtual event on October 8, 2020. Details on attending the virtual gala are available at https://mlawards.manufacturingleadershipcouncil.com
